Hello all, I don`t play violin but i think
its a really cool instrument in many situations
from rock to country to classical...

there is a band called HOT TUNA, and i
have a CD called "Hot Tuna Acoustic", its
all that i`ve ever heard by them, but
its got some folk/country/rock ties in it
lots of violin and acoustic guitar and bass and drums...

check them out!!

email me and let me know what you think...

Matt

These two bands might be a bit more well known that Hot Tuna, but I think they are very good:

Firstly, there is Bond. A classical string quartet that take classical music to new heights. They are my favourite classical band (if you can call them classical!) and they`re the main reason why I took up violin! They`re well known around the world, but if you`ve never heard of them, go here... http://www.bondmusic.net (They`re redesigning the site at the moment, but it`s still quite good)

My second choice would be The Planets (I mean the band, not the classical pieces). Like Bond, they take music and give it a twist. They`re not all strings players, but nevertheless there`s a violinist and a cellist. There is also 2 guitarists, a flautist and many more... http://www.theplanets.org.uk

Not everyone will like them, but I really think that they are both fantastic. Hot Tuna looks good too, I`ll have a good look around their site now.

The notes really aren`t that hard to figure out. if you have a piano or can get a hold of a keyboard. figure them out on there. Off hand, the main viola part in Way Away is:

A B(flat G F G A G F C D C F A B(flat) G

write back if it works for you, it worked for me. i can let you know Only One as well as Empty Apartment

Here`s a few notes for the songs, i just played by ear with the cd to piano to violin. i know there`s more violin than this but some songs like on Miles Apart and View From Heaven are kind of hard to learn by ear.

Way Away: A B(flat) G F G A G F C D C F A B(flat) G; about 1:20 into the song

Empty Apartment: C D E C D E F E D C D E F E F E F G F E F E D C (low)G C G G G C G G G G C C C C D E F A B C (the last few notes after the 4 c`s are a little sketchy, i don`t have my piano in front of me but its not hard to figure out)about 2:20 into the song, violin solo

Only One: All Fs and Gs and Cs are SHARP..
E F G E B B A E E C F G E E A A G G (violin solo) about 2:20 into the song

A G F B C(natural) C(sharp) these are the last few notes of the song

These are all taught by ear but maybe they`ll hold you over until you find the real sheet music.

By ear, it`s that simple    19:57 on Friday, June 25, 2004

Here`s a little thought. Listen really closly to the violin parts in the songs, then try to play by ear on the violin. That`s what I did with Rock Star Land. It takes a while but it really works.

well whoever wanted "believe", here`s something to go off of; A C# E E C# A A C# E E C# A A C# E E C# A A C# E E C# A
A D E E D A A D E E C# A A D E E D A A D E E C# A
A C# E E C# A A C# E E C# A A C# E E C# A A C# E E C# A
G# B E E B G# G# B E E B G# G# B E E B G# G# B E E B G#
