(Thank you David for recommending me to re-post this question to Violin Forum - and perhaps Liz can help me answer my question now...)

I`m looking to purchase a violin for my 4-year old daughter. She`s been taking lesson for about a year (actually started to "play" violin about 6 month ago). She is renting Suzuki violin now (1/16), but I`ve read a lot of good thing about gliga and they are reasonably priced. I`m almost ready to buy one from the violinsolver.com. But since I know nothing about violin myself, and reading some of the entries in this forum and other site, I have some questions.
1. Should I get GEMS 2 outfit or GENIAL 1 -Oil outfit, or even GENIAL 2-Nitro outfit? I can`t really tell the differences by reading the description.
2. Also, should I ask for the adjusters (can it be done on the "outfit"? I`m confused on this - is having adjusters good or bad? Do I need them on all 4 strings?
3. Does the round and octagonal bows any different?
Thank you

Don`t thank me too soon! you don`t seem to be getting many replies here either! Good luck with your daughter, anyway!

Sorry, I`ve only just seen this.

Get a wittner tailpiece fitted: any other sort of adjusters are really horrible on tiny violins.

Genial 1 rather than genial 2 for me: the price difference is tiny and the genial 1 looks better, and nitro varnish cracks easily.

Gems will probably sound better still, I haven`t had a tiny Gems, only tiny genials and gamas, but certainly at 1/4 size and up the difference becomes noticeable.

O as for bows: don`t worry too much, the cheapest will probably be quite adequate. We supply ours with Glassers because that works for us but a cheap wood bow will last until the violin is outgrown.

Thank you Liz. I think I`ll get GENIAL 1 for now, and maybe I can buy GEMS for the next size.

But can I ask you one more thing? On the violinsolvers.com (I reside in the US), GENIAL 1 comes in one-piece back if I buy violin alone. (All the violins in Outfit looks like 2-piece back) Is there any differences? Prices are the same, but I was just curious.

The difference is cosmetic only: get whichever you want

You don`t. No-one does. Actually I don`t use adjusters myself except for the E string but most of our customers have them. Adjusters on a tiny violin, though, just look a mess. Since it is impossible to tune tiny violins without them, a tailpiece with built in adjusters is by far the neatest solution.
