Depends greatly on where you live the experience your teacher brings to lessons...

...anywhere from $10-30 for 30 minutes is average...

I agree on that it is expensive, although the teachers must make a living... a compromise for you could to take a lesson per month or so. Then it you sum it up it will cost you "not that much". And really document all the info you get from the teacher and practice well in between the lesson.

My professor at my conservatory charges 120 pounds per hour, around 200 us dollars!

What I wrote was wrong. I was paying 30 euros for half an hour. And I took notes and saw that during the last 4 lessons she had told me the same things. So 120 euros for that knowledge i thought it was really too much.

And she tried to sell me a 2500 euros violin (without allowing me to check the value with a luthier). I started violin only one year ago, so reading all your posts I think I did well stopping the lessons with this teacher.
