beks, I`d like to offer a word of well-meaning advice: when you belittle public schools and then write with the skills (you have a lot more than spelling to learn) of someone who just learned to read and write, you send a poor message of yourself. Please try to think of how your words sound to others. I hope you learn to study well and become a success at whatever you wish to do in life!

So, when did this become a `spelling` forum? Cause last time I checked, it was a violin foum and the topic was violin/homeschooling, not whether Bekah can spell or public school v. homeschooling. Ya`ll sound like bunch of third graders. Anywho, Bekah, is your real name Rebekah? If you don`t want to tell me I understand. Tootles!

I don`t think it matters if your spelling isn`t perfect because everyone makes mistakes. I make typos all the time. So does my mom and she writes lots especially on the computer as part of her work. But you have to be able to read what people are saying because how else you do know what to answer?

I am wondering why beka spells so bad too. If she didn`t speak English or has a learning problem, then that`s different than if no one is teaching her. And if you are being taught at home but the teaching isn`t good, why is being homeschooled good? Teachers have to go to be trained to be teachers. And even then some are bad. So how can just anyone be a teacher when they haven`t been trained?

I guess if your mother or father were trained as a teacher and then they stay home to teach then that`s okay, except then they don`t make money.

About Home Education    12:43 on Thursday, November 4, 2004

To Bekah: I was homeschooled but now I am a freshman in college. And no, it wasn`t a really difficult switch to make, and, yes, I felt fully prepaired. Also, spelling was always my worst subject.
To Just Lurking: The whole concept of home education is not to learn math, science, english, etc, at home. It`s learning how to live life. How to garden(biology), pay bills(bussiness math), help teach/babysit your younger siblings(child development), take dance, violin, piano, voice, and acting classes, (fine arts), and how to run (financially, physically, and mentally) a household(home ec.). The whole point of home education is to make everything in life become a learning experience! Pretty cool, huh?A parent doesn`t need to go to school to teach their kid how to live. And the majority of homeschool parents realize when they can no longer continue to teach their child at the level needed and either hire a tutor for that certian subject or send their kid to college early! Most of the homeschoolers I know start taking college-level classes by their junior year.
To Everyone: Can we please get over Bekah`s spelling and talk about violin? What is your favorite piece? To play? To listen to? What`s the coolest thing you`ve ever played in orchestra?

Hey! VERY VERY VERY well said. That`s exactly the type of schooling my parents are teaching my siblings and I. NOt only academics- but how to live as an adult and make decisions!
Now to get on with the purpose of this forum!
We just played THE PLANETS by Holst last month in our orchestra. It was very very cool! We`re working on the William Tell now... my part is fast and way up there! It`s so much fun tho.
WBS and tell us what you`re working on... and Beks I started with Suzuki too.
