I used to have a very good violin that was exactly in this range. Find Schar Instruments online. Look for the Karl Joseph Schneider models. Call them up and request for them to send you some to try. This is easy and cheap. By the way, do not become obsessed with trying to get some old and nice-looking violin. Just because a violin is old does not mean it is good-sounding and often times they are overpriced. Although, if you can find a nice old violin for that price than go for it. Be sure to try lots before settling. Its a lot of money.

dunno where 2 get them exactly.. dunno what places you have near you (as stores) i dunno online either..(im no help lol) i really like my eastman andreas VL 305, it was like $1600 i think... I LOVE IT!! (of course. any violin was better then my old 1, it was worth like $5... (ok, not really, but it wasn`t that great) we sold it for like $200! (thats a lot considering what i thought of it..) it was a suzuki something.. (it was liek my greatgrandpas, that he bought for like $75, a long tiem ago though) im glad my grandpa didn`t have ne full size.. he only had 3/4.. no clue why! he looks cramped playing 3/4 violin.. lol) just look around. it took like 3 weeks, and i showed my teacher @ school person like 12 violins (not @ once.. lol) but we saw some pretty cheapo violins for a lot.. lol

I second the Karl Joseph Schneider. The Guarneri model is especially warm, sweet and responsive. Shar is great to work with.
