They are both beautiful instruments. They both will have nice resonance because of the quality wood used. What kind of sound are you looking for? If you are looking for a deep mellow sound, The stradivari model may be better, depends on what year strad they copyed it off of. Stradivari made some violins a little larger giving them a deep mellow sound similler to what maggini did. On the other hand, Stradivari made some smaller sweeter sounding instruments. The wider the ribs and deeper curve the front and back are the deeper darker sound you will get. If you want a sweet tone, go for the slightly thinner one. It all depends on what kind of sound you are looking for. Thoes two will sound similler I think because they have pretty much the same thinkness, the sound also depends on the strings, bridge, glue, varnish and so on. Let me know what you are looking for in an instrument such as sound, price range and so on, I can find you the perfect one. Would you like it off that site? I have found instruments for people before, I study this stuff haha. I learned how to make a violin last year. Im not very good at making them at all tho, its reallllly hard. I can send you pictures of the one i made if you like.

I noticed they both have a 1 week trial period. Maybe you could try them both out and see which you like better.

The Guaneri is louder and has a more viola like sound. It`s also bigger than the Strad model. Me, i`d play safe and go for the Strad.

It realy depends on what kind of sound you are looking for, maybe you would like the deeper louder sound. Stradivari also made some larger including the hellier

liz.... what the heck did I do to you dude? ha. I have a larger violin... dosent sound like a viola. Why are you trying to put me down in every thing i poast in? It realy depends on what sound he likes... you need to realize that not everyone likes the same sound in a violin as you. Maybe he would like the deeper more dramatic sound. Makes a great solo instrument. Believe me, i have one.

Rebecca, grow up. Obviously for $500 or whatever it is someone is not going to get a vioin to equal your genuine maggini. But then, few people reach the dizzy heights of being paid to play by the age of 14.

Guaneris (of ANY brand) have a "more masculine" sound. Translated into the nearest I can describe it, that equates to a somewhat viola like quality: louder and darker than the Strad model. OK?

Me, i`d go for the Strad. Most people do.

i would probably have a strad but i had no choice in the matter. the plus side is that i know that mozart used a stainer lol.
something is different about the other guys strad violin in school. i`ve tried it and the violin plays smooth and rich without much effort, but my stainer i have to force out the good sound, and most of the time i get a harsh, rough sound... we both got dominant strings. anyone have an idea of what i should do? the only thing i`ve noticed is that he has a got a humidifier and a wooden kun shoulder rest.

Rebecca, out of interest, you are homeschooled aren`t you? Apart from the fact that someone should teach you manners, who teaches you violin?
