Argh. I`m trying to choose between two different electric violins, a decision made more difficult because my local music store has neither of them. So, i`m going to see if i can get some input here. my choices are either the Fender or the Straus/Rave/Shar. I`m not sure if the Straus, Rave, and Shar are the same things with different company logo stickers on them, or if they vary at all, but I prefer the look of them to the Fender. On the other hand, I`m looking for something with a unique, more modern sound, and I would imagine the Fender would have more of that. I`m not sure, though. Has anyone here tried both? If so, would you care to enlighten me?

Oh yeah, the picture of the Straus is the 5-string model... just ignore the extra string, because I have no intention of buying the 5-string (it just extends the range down to viola level). As for google, I tried, but I can`t seem to find anywhere where I can get a review that specifically addresses my question.

i actually just ordered a Struas, but it hasn`t come yet. I`ve read bad stuff about the Fender, so i wouldn`t get it. It is supposed to be REALLY heavy and the sound isn`t too good, but that is just what i`ve read. I haven`t played any of them...

hey, i have a fender, electric.

actually it isnt bad, sure it is kinda heavy, but its cheap.

ive heard about the lack of good sound, honestly it depends on what you are looking for, the fender would be more suited to rock, and fender does have a reputation of this for their instruemnts. straus would be more on the classical note. it all depends on what you want. i dont know about the straus, but the fender doesnt have a preamp, which means the bass will be kind of weak and the really high treble will be kinda skimpy, also the sound will not have the good tone, but i find this easily fixed by an equilizer.

it all depends on what you want

So wait...are the Straus and Rave violins the exact same thing? Because I`m interested in buying one and I have a new 5 string straus going at $400 and and new 5 string Rave going at $200 being offered. Is there any difference between the brands? Also, has anyone ever played a Marcus Martini. They have alot on e-bay but that`s about the only place I can find them and what impresses me is that they have a built in pre-amp. I`m just wondering if anyone has seen one in person and ever played it to observe tone quality and stuff because they are beautiful instruments. Thanks. you can e-mail me at Madcrzyme@aol.com if you want.

Fiddle Forum really is the best place to go for non classical discussion. Would be the best place for classical discussion if people discussed it more

Like I said in the cello section if you have a regular violin, just buy a pencil eraser sized microphone and stick it in your violin and plug it into a stereo, and there you have a electric violin. Why buy one, when you can just make one for practically a few dallars.
