i`ve recently just changed strings from a brand i don`t know to dominant. the dominant is horrible for playing... the dstring is brash and harsh, my wolf tone on open A appears more often, and my open E whistles when i play it longer then a half note. i`ve got a stainer copy that is at least 60 years old. anyone else with an old violin model suggest me some good strings and a good gauge?

I went through this a while back with Dominant strings. I tried gut, but got so annoyed with re-tuning. I now have Infeld Red and love the tone. Will not change from them so they may be worth a try for you.

yes, i`ve tried eudoxa before when i was younger. i dont quite remember how it worked out but i remember my violin going out of tune all the time with some brand. about the infeld brands.. what`s different about them from dominant? they`re both thomastik so i`m skeptical about their performance.

i think i`m going to either try piastro evah pirazzi or obligatos.. not sure which gauge to get, heavy, medlum, or light. i`ll probably get a medium gauge just to be safe. just need help choosing between the two brands. they both have great reviews.

Evahs and Obligati are about the same, with the Evahs a little brighter.

Eudoxa is really nice, if you don`t mind tuning often.
