Try pushing them in a little as you turn them.

Well then ...

Humidity has a direct effect on the pegs. Depending on where you live and the seasonal variations in humidity, this may only be a seasonal problem. For a short term solution then you would need somehow to increase the humidity.

There are peg drop available to actually make the pegs stick which might help.

I do have a couple of other ideas which are worth eliminating. Are you absolutely sure it is the PEGS that are slipping? Sometimes you can get a tailgut problem that is rather similar in that the violin will not hold its tuning, but it is not the pegs that are slipping but the tailgut screws. This is characterised by a creaking sound which is a dead giveaway.

And you are sure that it isn`t just a matter of new strings going out of tune more often than you expected?

If its none of these then my vote would be to send it back, but that of course depends on shipping costs and on the seller`s return policy / the law in your country / state about returning goods purchased online.

I`m assuming it`s a new violin, but perhaps I am wrong?

my teacher suggested to me once that if the pegs don`t stay put, apply rosin on it.

Hope it helps!

hi mine does that too. so this is wot i do: as i turn the pegs i push in at the same time putting pressure on them. i hope that helpsand remember your violin can easily go out of tune depending on the weather maybe thats why its not tuning right.

YE ROSIN WORKS oops sorry,caps

ummm also try chalk. or maybe the peg is too small for the hole. if the chalk or rosin doesnt work go to some repairsman and get a bushing sorta thing put in

If chalk and pushing the pegs in don`t work (and if the wood`s warping, then they`re not), take the instrument to a professional and have them replace the pegs. You need pegs that are properly sized to your instrument.

Pushing the peg in while tuning helps but need to be careful as it could cause:
1. the Peg hole become widened and you need to push even more in next time
2. too tight after pushing and difficult to turn the Peg with single hand.
3. The pushing force will deform the peg box and cause sudden release of other pegs. Not good on stage.

Look, just take the pegs out and put some charcoal on them.
They`ll stick just fineb

heat causes the violin to get out of tune, also if the strings are new they tend to get out of tune alot.. if the pegs are slipping try to somehow get them to stay in place by putting something on them that will create friction. i dont think rosin is a good idea because rosin is used for to smooth (u put it on the bow for it to slide smoothly remember?)if u have tried everything tell your violin teacher or a violin constructor

You ought to try taking the pegs out and applying chalk in the peg-holes. Talk to your teacher about your problem. But if the violin`s new, you`ll probably have to put up with this for a few weeks... I have the same problem.
