Okay, here goes... I am now 24 years old. I used to play the violin from age 8 to age 12. My husband recently bought me a violin and I am dying to relearn how to play. My problem is my new violin has an "airy" sound to it. I took it and had it tuned and when I tried to play it just gave off an "airy" sound. I was told that the more I play, then the sound will become more clear. It is sounding a bit better, but I`m worried something is wrong with the violin. Can anyone please help?

I don`t know what you mean by an "airy" sound. Can you find another way of describing it?

Hi! I think it might be your bow. Sometimes you don`t get a clear sound because it`s dirty, or needs to be rosined. Are you pressing down hard enough too?

That is the exact thing that happened to my new violin. it had an "airy" sound. this is cause its new. Since the wood is new or fresh.(just made)In a few weeks it was starting to sound better like a normal violin.Just as they say old violins are better than new ones
