Hi,

I`ve just last week got hold of an eschini divertimento violin and I`m wondering what people think of this violin, whats its reputation?
I believe I`m using Pirastro strings, the steel kind but am not sure. My tutor seems to think somethings not quite right with the strings, wondering what kind of string would suit this violin?

Thanks any any help, suggestions etc,

Katie

Cheap Chinese. I hope you didn`t pay too much!

Corelli Crystals work very well with many violins of this type.

Hey I just thought I should post another response to this thread to say that the violin I`m playing is actually a very good violin, when I told my tutor it was Chinese you should have seen her face, a mixture of suprise and shock. She didn`t think it was Chinese at all.

Personally I like this violin a lot, I changed the strings to dominants ( I didn`t get correli stings because when I asked about them I was told they have stopped making them, Corelli does not exist now, apparently, they had them in stock but descided against them) and the violin is sounding really good.

So it seems not all Chinese violin should be considered as `cheap`. I also noticed that the expressivo violin is classified as being less good than the divertimento, but recently I saw a online shop sell them for more than I`m paying for the divertimento! How strange, but good for me.

"Cheap" is always a relative term. I did not intend to imply "rockbottom". If you like it that`s what matters.

I`m find it hard to believe that Corelli have gone out of business: it isn`t that long since they introduced a new string to the market. Who told you about this??

I was recommended J P Guivier & Co Ltd, on Mortimer st, London for the Corelli strings, but when I asked there, I was told they had stopped making them, they still had them in stock but he said they would eventually run out, so I bought dominants instead. I believe they are a reputable company. So I doubt they would lie about something like this.

I agree they wouldn`t, and I can`t see any reason why anyone would lie about such a thing anyway. But savarez (the makers) have nothing on their website to suggest such a thing and there is nothing from either of the wholesalers we use to suggest such a thing either. You`re sure it was the Crystals you asked for, not the Alliance (which have indeed been superceded)?

No, it was definately Corelli Crystals I asked for and they said they are not made anymore because the company that made them had gone bust or something, they just had the remaining stock to sell left.

Hi,

I bought an Eschini Affectuoso violin few weeks ago. Good violin! Better than any of the german made new instruments i tried in the shop! I am a serious amateur player. I love the sound of my new violin. Very rich, broad and sweet. Well, suppose the violin shop also did a good shop in setting it up and putting my preferred strings on. Agreed that strings are very important!

The shop told me they use Dorminant to set up student model Eschini Espressivo and Cantabile. But for the Affectuoso I bought, they said they normally asked client`s preference.

From what my expirience told me, Dominant strings are the best to use for an avrege violin.

Dominants are horrible for my violin. I got Infeld reds like two months ago and I can`t complain. None of that grinding crap I had with the dominants and it`s actually still not fraying after two months. With dominants and practicing a hour everyday, they start to tear within a month . Next, I`m going to the try the obligatos and see how they sound.
