Hi everyone,
I`d like to ask some questions .

When i listen to a violin (in tv or radio) i hear a very clear sound,
But when i play my violin i hear the sound of bow and that makes me really sick!!!! But people who listen to me say that they only hear music ......
Is that common or what?

The second question is about the bridge position. Please, could any one tell me (exactly) where to place the bridge, because i noticed that the bridge position really affects the echo of sound.
(Where to place the bridge to make a dark sound??)
I would be grateful if you could answer my questions.

Ahmed

Uhhmmm...... I dont really know about the sound of the "bow" youre talking about. I really didn`t have any problems aboout that.

Now about the bridge. Is it in perfect curvature? It`s best to consult a professional luthier or your music teacher. Hope this helps.

About the bow sound does it make like a squeaking sound? this probebly means your either not useing rosin or your not useing the best kind for yourself. we all have different preferances. I use Gustav Bernardel rosin I love it! strings also make a big difference i like thomastik-infeld strings myself (dominant).
About the brige if u move the bridge back a little from the little f spikes on the holes it should make it darker if not then i have no idea.

be sure to use alot of rosin and clean your strings!!!

lol don`t move the bridge! if you want to achieve a nice dark sound, you can buy strings that do that, but don`t move the bridge. it takes about 5 years of playing to develop a clear, vibrant sound. lots of factors to this such as where your bowing, closer or farther from bridge, how tilt of your bow, the pressure of the right index finger, etc. for intonation, after a while, you just know your note is sharp or flat, but you have to learn the pitch of the note right to do this.

well u have to realize that your ear is right next to the instrument. When others hear you, the sound waves sound diffrent. That is why when you are rehearsing in a band room it sounds diffrent when your out on stage. Also..please please please...if you dont know or iffy about the violin componants...DO NOT TOUCH THE BRIDGE...it is not held down by anything and is fragile...and the shop custom fits the bridge to be in-line with the sound post. So ive never heard about a dark sound. i might be wrong though

Rosin, strings, and good position of the bow are important things. Yet nothing can substitute experience. The thing you need most is practice, also if you are using steel strings you might want to get some kind of synthetic core string, but unless you want to be poor and agrivated say away from natural gut.
