well it may be not what you`re thinking.

ive recently got myself a violin. a real cheap one. just for fun and learning over years. but it wont stay tuned. never, even in a 15 minutes laps. there`s no problem tuning to the right notes, but the little screw that holds the strains keep moving. i dont know how they usually are, but mine arent like guitars or whatever, they are made of plastic and there`s no "filage" as for a screw. i dont know if you see what i mean. well when i tune it, if a turn it a liiiiittle to fast, it unscrews almost completely and i have to do it again. then, when they are all tuned, of course, the E one isnt tuned anymore.

so is there anyway to, i dont know, buy some other tuning screws that would fit in any violin and be better?

i know im not clear

thanks!

I`m not sure whether you are talking about the tuning pegs or the adjusters. Could you be more specific?

If you are talking about tuning pegs (ie: the bit near where your fingering (usually left) hand) then putting chalk dust on them may help. I assume that you have tried pushing them in?

If it is the fine tuners (nearer to the bridge) i really can`t help and reccomend you go to a proffesional)

if its the tuning pegs you are talking about...which are the 4 pegs at the top of the violin....yes you could use the chalk...i use peg dope...costs a couple of bucks..but it works. another alternative is to take it to a professional to get some pegs fitted properly. if you are talking about the fine tuners...which are the little screws on the tail piece...i cant help you..

she`s probably talking about actual pegs, not fine tuners. I recommend going to any violin shop and buy some nice ebony pegs. doesn`t have to be expensive just practical and functional.

The only screws there are on the violin would be the fine tuners. I`d think any popular fine tuner would be a good replacement for a plastic one. There are tailpieces with built-in tuners as well.

IMHO, it is not worth it to get a luthier to fix the pegs. Rosin also works for slipping pegs.
