ok... first violin ever and I have no clue what the fingerboard is for or if it goes on the violin. can anyone help??

the package I bought said it had a pearwood fingerboard but there is this little piece of wood with holes in it. this is what i mean when i ask

The fingerboard is already on the violin. I think you might be talking about the bridge. Have a look here:

Is there no one handy who can help you? It can be rather tricky to explain in words if you`re not sure what all the bits and pieces are called...

The default position is in between the two notches in the f holes.
