Do you mean the pegs slipping because you could be talking about the fine-tuners slipping?

Nope, I`m positive its the pegs. I can hear them.(besides they slip as much as three steps between tunings) Any remedies?

At school we use this stuff that we call Peg Dope, but i believe its called peg compound. It works good on our instruments when our pegs slip.

I usually push in my pegs while I turn them, so the method is push & turn at the same time.

Yea, I push in my pegs in when I tune, but it still doesn`t retain pitch. Someone else said they used chalk....?

The first thing i would do is get a humidifier... If the wood is dry, it could be thinner than normal and that is why you aren`t getting enough pressure for it to stay. After a good week or so with a humidifier, it should be much better.

I don`t like Peg Dope because every time i`ve used it i`ve broken my strings, and Dominant strings ain`t cheap.

Hill`s is for when the pegs are sticking, and Hiderpaste is for when they won`t stick. I have both and have used them both. I like Hill`s better, and felt that Hiderpaste was sort of a waste of my money. When I`ve used it, I basically put a few scrapes of Hiderpaste on the shiny part of the peg (I remove the string and take the peg out) like Steve described. Back in the OLD days, people would use chalk instead of Hiderpaste and a sliver of (dry) bar soap (such as Ivory) instead of Hill`s compound.

Chalks works fine and when you have thight pegs use a pencil and write on the part of the peg that has to move and it works very well.
