Does anylne here own or play a skylark? Im hoping to switch to a Skylark from a Florea, but all im finding is begginer Skylarks, and im wondering if all SAkylarks are begginer.

I think so. I have never heard of, nor seen, a skylark above the ebonised beginner variety. They were always regarded as pretty much rockbottom over here when they were common (of the ones I saw, only the Parrot, the Lark and, in those days, the Stentor were worse). They are less common now because Stentor have taken over much of that end of the market (and have improved) and there are many new names that are better quality at the same price point.

thanks for the information, although i am a little suprised, becasue my teachers violin has such a great sound,, what violin do you play if i might ask?

Tristan, I heard that out of a batch of like, 50 or so Skylarks, 2 or 3 may be kinda alright (though this may be a load of bull, so don`t quote me on it)
Maybe your teacher`s was made a long time ago (well, maybe earlier than now, say).

I HAVE A NEW 2ND HAND SKYLARK. IT`s FINE EXCEPT IT SMELLS FUNNY.

Hi, I was told never buy use or go near a skylark they are the bottom of barrel and they all smell. If your teacher recomends them I might think very hard about that hum??????

I just purchased an "antique" violin and noticed when I received it that it is stamped on the upper back skylark brand....
just wondering ....how long ago did skylark start making violins?
