hi, i`m 20 and about to start the violin. i been playing the piano for 2 years now. i haven`t played the violin since 5th. so basically i forgot everthing and wanted to bring it back. a friend of mine whom is an experienced violinist will be teaching me. i think i feel more intimate with a violin than i do with a piano. anyways my first song i want to learn how to play is the end credit theme from Zelda: A Link to the past.
the midi can be found here: http://www.ichigosmusic.com/gamemusic/midi/zeldalinktothepastcredits.mid from ichigosmusic.com

i think i can arrange the two violin and make it one. it wouldn`t sound as nice as the full string quartet but that song is too beautiful not to play! so do you think it`s too much for a beginner? or should i start with something easier? i think i can read the treble clef decent enough to play it.

that`s a really nice song... in fact i transposed that MIDI in Noteworthy and i`m going to have my Quintet try playing it (two violins, cello, bass, and flute).

The song wouldn`t work with just two instruments... i tried arranging it but it just doesn`t feel right. Sorry.

However, a good source of songs for rapidly getting back into the game with playing the Violin is the Suzuki Method... Although i greatly despise it they ccan be very good aides sometimes. (and they have nice pieces)

HI!
you should not begin with a "real" song.first you must learn the right intonation, thats very very important(thats why it is so difficult to play the violin...!) .dont start with songs.im sure youre friend will this prevent.play studies just like "kreutzer" or "flesh".do this and soon you will play very well!and then you can play songs like this!
good luck!
