does anyone know much about this piece? i realise i`m a flute player and feel kind of out of place posting here (i hope you guys are nicer than us flutes...we`re real snobs) but i was wondering about this because i have to play it in a concert in about a week and just got the music. i just need a general feel for the piece. like what`s the mood (adagio i`m guessing...i looked over the piece a bit and played a few bars) and wave-like (for a lack of a better word)...yes? correct me if i`m wrong please

thanks guys!

If you would really like to know about this piece, two things:

1. Find and read the poem by George Meredith
2. Go out to the country and sit for a while under the wide open sky
3. Listen to Iona Brown`s recording with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields...

And then...be quiet for a week...

Peace,
Sam Thompson (will be performing this piece this week in upstate New York)

Go onto Hilary Hahn`s website (she`s a famous violinist), somewhere there (I think it`s a sample of her new cd) she explains the Lark Ascending, it`s very insightful. It hink it would help you
