Copy of Anotonio Stradivarus 1720
Anno 1978 Japan
That is the information inside the viola.
Is this a decent model she is moving into the 9th grade?

It`s interesting... string instruments are different than woodwinds and brass. You really can`t tell what the tone will be like... or how well it is set up.. by what brand or model it is. Your niece will need to take the instrument to her new teacher.. and let him/her look at it. I hope that it will be in great shape... and that she will have fun learning with it! Viola is a great instrument to play.... AND... if she really works at it... she can get some pretty decent scholarship offers when she`s ready for college! Best wishes!
