Would anyone be willing to help me out, if I were to start a viola website? (including a better organized forum, and etc.) I tried to search for viola forums and all I got was 8notes.com which isn`t bad at all. It`s got decent number of people, but unlike other bigger violin, cello forums, we can`t share music, pictures, and other goodies. I think it`d be nice to have a website for violists (anyone is welcome however, just the primary focus is on viola). If you guys can help, that`d be great! Just reply this post, tell me what you guys think. Is it a waste of time? If not, give me suggestions, and tell me if u can help me out and such! Go violists!

Sure, this is a great idea. I`m sure that you could find somewere to promote your website. There`s not a lot of Viola forums out there...

It sounds like you`re describing the viola website and the viola list .
Look up those if you haven`t heard of them.

I`m a member of viola.com (and their yahoo group both young musicians, and adults) But when I go to their website, their layout is so boring, I don`t even want to bother going there. It seems like a personal viola fan website to me, more than a community. I wanna start something we can do together, collaborate, share our music. That`s the aim, information, and other things can be found in books, encyclopedias, and those websites just repeat it. Yahoo group is okay, but its too old now days. Forums are better organized and more interesting to browse through. And rather than a passive website, I`d like to keep things updated, perhaps w/ user submitted clips of month or wutever anything. The point is, there aren`t enough viola sites out there. I`m sure you could of named more examples, but a violinist would offer me a list 1000x longer than that. See where I`m getting? Imagine if one day, we, violist too can say we have a bigger community than the violinists, or anyone else who singled us out. But thanks for the response, still very helpful =D Perhaps we can gather some general info and put them in our words with few personal tips, and so on to offer other violists out there!

the hard part will be trying to get your site promoted, due to the fact that the majority of the population is full of violinist or cellist. But its about time someone tried to take the greatness of the viola to a better "level".

Yeah. I absolutely agree.... site promotion will be extremely difficult, but still posible. I think we just have to devise something unique that would attract members. I`m not sure if the community should be strictly just violists, or others as well. I was planning for just violists becuz there are so many sites out there that have like all strings put together, and violists are almost always treated poorly, either that or lack of members, eventually viola section becomes part of the "Misc String" forum section. So, yeah... to reinforce my point, i think a community for just violists would be better. If committed enough, I`m sure a lot of violists would be attracted to join the community. What do you guys tyhink?

it`s not bad at all! hehe. better than what i was thinkin of hahaha... i`m terrible with coming up with names, i`m prolly gonna make my wife decide my children`s names in the future lol.

yeah definitely. anyways i`d like if everyone would provide their emails, because i`ll contact u guys when the site`s up. I`m still workin on it, and I still need a name, or even a theme.
