I`m going to audition for the local symphony.

Can someone recommend a good solo piece that would allow me to show both good tone and skill?

I was thinking the Courante in the first of Bach`s Six Cello Suites. ...but now I`m thinking I might want something more smooth and melodic. something emotional?

There are a lot of good viola solos out there. Since people on this board are so slow, I recomend searching your topic in google. I am sure you will find something good. You might want to ask a teacher or musician what to pick to play. They are more educated on this than must of us here (except me)(because I`m a genious)(sarcastic comment)(but you probably knew). Hope that helped!

i did try googling, but didn`t come up with much. i searched here, too, and found a lot of bantering about how the viola isn`t a good solo instrument because it`s in 4ths, blah, blah, blah.

yes, i understand the viola is not a violin.

i did see someone recommend the telleman and also a bartok viola concerto. i just ordered a couple voila cds from amazon, so hopefully i will find something good. i`m pretty confident i can tackle about anything as long as i can hear it. i was trained ages ago with the suzuki method. i figure i can sit at my desk at work with my headphones on and listen to whatever song i pick over and over again all day long.

i have until january 15th...i might just call up an old teacher.
