Ok I`m fairly new at playing the viola. I am thirteen and have only been playing for two years. A few weeks ago, my bridge snapped under the strings and onto the face of my viola. I am just learning all these things (how to replace a string, fix a bridge, yahdeyahdeyahda). After this happened, I set up the bridge as straight as possible and it looked alright to me. I glued it down with just a teensy bit of wood glue because a boy in my class suggested it. Now I am worried that the glue will be a problem. Was this (gluing it) just a stupid thing to do? Should I remove the glue? Please help, it means so much. Thanks!

Uh oh! Bridge shouldn`t be glued down! That boy... u shouldn`t trust him. I mean as a ex-boy myself, (im mature now haha) i used to be a jerk, played jokes on girls. And this boy you should avoid. Probably doesn`t know anything about violas/violins, try to remove it!

Just one more thing. Out of curiosity, what damage can glueing it down do? I have only had it glued for about 3 weeks and I need to know if it is damaged and if I need to get anything repaired.

Glueing the bridge will alter your sound greatly. Next time something like this happens, you need to take your viola to the shop and have someone their look at it. Also, periodicly check your bridge to make sure it is not tilting. If it is tilting, take your instrument into the shop.I strongly recomend that you take your instrument into the shop so it can be inspected. The problem could be with other parts of the instrument. I hope this helped.

if you are taking a class or learning at school, put the bridge in a plastic bag and wait for your teacher to fix it.
