I'm to the point where I can jam with friends who play guitar. (slower songs) If I get any sheet music for rock, it's going to be lead sheets (melody, lyrics, chords). I could play the full melody an octove under the singer, but it gets way too thick and the singer dosn't appreciate it.
So what I started doing is using the chords. I start out just playing the root, then maybe the fifth or a slow full arpegio. The guitar guys love it. Rock people usually never get to hear live strings. But to me my playing is getting predictible. After all, some rock songs only have two chords.
Does anyone have any ideas on writing interesting viola parts based on chord charts? Remember, I'm trying to be useful and compliment the other players without stepping on them.
Thanks,
