Hello there, I played viola when i was younger, then stopped for many year. I am now picking the instrument up again and most things are seeming fairly easy.

It's the obvious one of figerplacing/intonation that i'm findind difficult. And my question is this (it's probably been asked before, and probably sounds silly); i find it much easier (obviously) to find the correct notes if i make a slight mark with rosin at the 5th 'fret', is this a very bad habit to get into? or am i best learning like this 'til i no longer need the mark?

I just don't want to get into bad habit..

Thank you very much..

I'd say it's good if it can help you at the beginning, but you should always trust your ear more than the mark of rosin, and try to get used to hearing the right note rather than placing your finger on the mark.

sorry for the very bad english, i hope it made some sort of sense

Yesm, thank you very much..that's pretty much what i was thinking..i just thought it might be something that was very frowned upon :D ...i can hear the notes when they are right or wrong, it just the being able to jump from one note to another and get it right first time that i'm finding difficult...:D

thanks again..
