I just started viola a few months ago. I picked it because I knew there was a higher demand for them. I like their sound better too. somethimes violins are just too high!!

Im in 7th grade and im in orchestra. And i play the Viola! Hurrah! Well, anyways, in our 7th grade orchestra, there are about 10 cellos, 10 violas, 50 violins and 1 bass. In one of our recent concerts we played Dance of the Tumblers and in one part the Violas have a solo, keeping the beat for the plucking violins. And even though we were using our bows the violins were still just as loud as us.

I think there are less Violas because they arent as popluar as violins, like when you listen to an orchestra play, you mostly hear violins playing the melody. But violas are important too!

My sister played the violin. She started teaching me how to play the summer before we picked instruments, and i didnt want to be exactly like her, so i picked viola, and im happy too!

I think that there are so few Violist because not a lot of people know about violas. In addition, the violin over shadows the viola in popularity.

I can`t believe two other venezuelans had posted here, I am Venezuelan too and want to start to play viola. It would be nice to find more venezuelans viola players and maybe chat on msn. I used to be in the national symphony orchesta but I used to paly french horn. I miss the orchesta world so much, I want to come back but now as a viola player. In my orchesta there were around 20 viola players and they were quite popular. The violinist were geek and really low people. The violinists used to say they were the best and violist didn`t talk to much people but they were really sophisticated, elegant and most of them were really pretty. I know it sounds impossible, but that was the situation in my orchesta a few years ago

Well.. i am nly 14 and i have been playing the viola for like 5 years now...:P i luv the viola...but wat i dont understand is how few pplz know wat i viola is!! i mean like really...without a viola u cant really have a good srting quortet or a COMPLETE orchestra. The thing i like about the Viola is it has the notes of a cello but it is as fun as the violin (i sould know) anywayz that is all :P

Hi my name is denise. I play the viola and have been for almost 3 years. Now I'm in the 8th grad eand I also am in my city's youth orchestra program. the las vegas youth orchestras. I don't want to brag or anything but I think that I'm the best violist at my school. We have a lot of violist there. I think I'm the best in the school because. well you se we had to audition to get into LVYO and I got into a group with high school kids. 8th grade is the lowest grade in the group that I got into and I got into it. The 1st chair violist (my best friend) tried out and she got into the lower one. She didn't even deserve 1st chair. I don't know why violas are so uncommon. In my beg class we had like 5 or 6 violists and we were the best section. always together and everything. I also play the cello and bass. I don't care much for the violin. (too squeaky....no offense to the violin players out there) I think the viola should be more common. I mean it has a rich chocolaty sound to it. thats why I chose it. and its the perfect size.
