Are you playing too close to the bridge?? Or even over the fingerboard. That can cause yowling and squeaking

I had this problem when I started out playing 8 or 9 years ago.

It's an easy problem to remedy. Move away from the bridge, add more rosin, and don't push as hard on the string.

On the flipside it can be the instrument you're playing. When I switched from violin to viola I had a junker for a month until I found my current instrument and the A string was the worst to play. This can also change by taking it to a Luthier, but that will cost some money.

Hey! When I was beginning I had issues with squeaking as well, try dark rosin (sp?) it's excellent for it! Also, it could be how much pressure you are putting into the string. If you have too much force you may end up squeaking. It could also be the viola, if its a starter bow/viola that could be the cause. Good luck!
