Recommended Viola Stand?

Hi. I`m just getting started, haven`t even had my first viola lesson yet. (I have been taking piano lessons for 7 years, though.)

I`m looking for a nice viola stand. My sister has a wonderful cello stand, and it just makes it so much easier for her to pick it up and play it than if she kept it in her case.

If you have any recommendations, please let me know. And I`m open to any advice you might have for me, too.

By the way, I have a wonderful viola. Inside are the words "Albert V. Mertes
Cinncinnatti, O.
Germany"

My aunt found it for me, and the man she bought it from said that it was made in the 1920s. It`s very beautiful and has a nice warm tone. If anyone knows anything about "Albert V. Mertes" violas, I`d love to know more about my viola.

Thanks.

- Anna

I am in my fifth year of viola and am i high school so I am no expert. I am sorry to say that I don`t know much about good stands, I got mine when I began renting my instrament and it is just a wire one. But I suggest you look at music store web sites and I will post again if I find anything.

I find that it is just easier to keep the viola in its case... It isn`t so big that it is really complicated to unpack. I mean, it only takes about 30 seconds.
Pop open case, pick up viola... kun it. Bam!

Please contact me about your Albert Mertes viola. He was my grandfather.

Yeah, i just use a guitar stand, it looks strange if you get a taller one, but they make ones that dont hold it by the neck. it just supports the back and is perfect for a viola. Any music store selling guitars should have these, take your viola and choose one that works.

I`ve never needed a viola stand. But if you feel you need one, go right ahead. Violas come in many different sizes though.
