hey someone tell me how to read the alto clef... plz i don`t know how

if by alto clef you meen the viola cleft then here it is:
lines in caps and spaces in little letters

The Alto clef is smack in the middle of the Treble and Bass clef.

Grr! I wish we could edit our posts...bad wording on the previous post.
It should read "in between" instead of "the middle of."

IT IS NOT THE VIOLA CLEF, IT IS THE ALTO CLEF FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!!!!!!!!
i take it you can read the treble clef right? well if you can, learning the name s of notes for the ALTO clef should be easy. basicall all you do ids move the note down 1 interval on the treble clef to find the name of the not on the ALTO clef!!!! so a B in the treble clef will becon an A and a G in the Treble clef will be a F!!! hope that you find this little tip useful. don`t forget*** when playing the viola, if the note is on a space, it will be your 2nd or 4th fingers playin. if the not is on a line, it will be your 1st or 3rd finger playing!!!***

Thanks for the tip... Haven`t played inover 10 years and trying to get back a postential skill is there a trick to tuing the viola like there is with the guitar.

With the Alto Clef, remember that the middle line is Middle C. And to the person who wanted to know about tuning a viola.... Remember that a viola has pegs and fine tuners, and you should get someone to show you how the first time, or else you`ll end up breaking alot of strings!! But a general rule of thumb: Use the pegs for when you are VERY out of tune (the ones at the top) and the fine tuners (the little silvery ones) for when you are slighty out of tune. Hope that helps.

it`s easy. y`know how the alto clef comes in like a b? well, the middle part is the c, so if you know that, you can probably figure the rest from there.

lol your friend "betty boop"has got it backwardsfor the treble clef the middle line is B and in the VIOLA clef the middle line is C, so you don`t move down an interval- you move up. Nice try though "betty" Good luck next time.

1. C clef
2. Alto clef
3. Viola clef

Ok...if you need to learn how to read the alto clef..all you need to know is for example if you start on the D string and lay one finger down on the string it would go from D to E...each step/finger is another note.
A = Open string, First finger = B. Second Finger = C, Third Finger = D...so and so forth.
D = Open string, First finger = E, Second finger = #F, Third finger = G ...
G = Open string, First finger = A, Second finger = B, Third finger = C...
C = Open string, First finger = D, Second finger = E, Third finger = F...

The alto clef is two letter C`s bottom to bottom and backwards. Middle C is where they meet (3rd line) and if you turn the staff 90 degrees clockwise, it`s an ionian column referencing the ionian mode.

Will learning the alto clef in order to play viola mess with the ability to read regular treble and bass for piano playing? Experience with that anyone?
