Hey all, I have been playing guitar for over 5 years, and I have just recently started to play viola. I bought a cheap viola and took it to a local music shop. The guy there switched everything up for me perfectly except for the chin rest. I just moved the chin rest over real far, and it works perfectly!!!

So just a word of caution to lefties: dont let yourself get ripped off!! Its so east just to switch everything around.

Violas, and all sting instruments aren't usually changed for lefties, because it looks more uniform (and you don't knock your stand partner in the head.) if all the bows are going the same direction. That is why they don't sell "lefty" violas.

I know a mischievous boy who, while learning to play the violin, got himself into an accident and lost many fingers in his left hand. After the strings of his violin were reversed, he went on learning the violin while bowing with his left hand and fingering with the right.

I too play everything lefty except violin and viola. Took a bit of time to gain the fingering tech. however with practice, it does come. I'll stay as a righty viola player.
