whats the diff between the viola and violin, apart from the size?

isnt it similar and does the viola make lower sounds?

Other than size and sound...the viola strings run CGDA from lowest to highest...the violin strings run GDAE...

Viola music is written (for convenience) in the alto clef, violin in the treble...
