Im arranging "Chords of Life" by Joe Satriani for string quartet, and im in a slight dillema. I play violin and Im not quite sure the range of the clef for viola. So heres the question... is low C for viola one line below the bar, like the C on the G string for violin, or is it below the bar? Thanks in advance.

Below the bar? U mean below the stave? Hmmm... I don`t really understand what yr saying, but I`ll tell u the 4 strings in order. So from there(if u do play the violin) u`ll be able to gauge the range.
Corde 1, 2, 3, 4 =A ,D ,G ,C( this C is a fifth below the double ledger line G of a treble clef, which is the lowest sounding note on a violin.)
I hope this answers yr question. Thanks.

Middle C is on the middle line of the staff. The C string is an octave below that.

The middle line of Alto is 3rd on G.

here is an easy way to remember;

treble clef; first ledger line

alto clef; first space after first ledger line

bass clef; second ledger line

the first being middle C, the second an octave beneath, the third two octaves.
