Church orchestras usually don`t pay, except for special gigs (Christmas Eve, etc.). Small city orchestras often don`t either, if they`re made up of non-professional musicians.
Larger orchestras that are affiliated with a university or a larger city (and are comprised of professional musicians) usually do pay. They tend to pay $45 - $85 per service plus mileage (not all pay mileage).
The biggest orchestras, which are practically impossible to get into (like Cleveland, Philadelphia, Chicago) -- well, I have no idea how much they pay.
