I like every string on the viola. The c-string is dark and eldritch, the g-string rich and thick, the d-string warm and sweet and the a-string bright and intense. But I do like melody to be centred around the d-string.

I love g and d alike. I hate the a, but I guess that`s because I just started taking lessons and I need a lot more practice so that it stops squealing. It`s too high for my taste!

Don`t worry, eventually the a-string can sound quite nice. It`s all a matter of practice, especially with the bow arm.

Lol each has its own virtues, namely C can go low, A can go high and G and D can cover the middle ranges. (Sorry, this is sarcastic English humour by the way):D

In all seriousness, the G string can make a lovely tone, but recently after changing strings to Piastro Obligatos from my old faithful Dominants, I seem to get on with lower music better...Anyone else use Obligatos?

I think the A string is the coolest string of all. Because you can go as high as you want and who cares if it sounds bad the first time. You wil soon learn how to paly really good like me and learn to love the A sting. Do you know the fourth finer on the A string gives you a D then you put you`re first finger on the note after the D and you get an E the put down all your four fingers and you find on the last finger you have another A But when you play the A don`t press down on it just lightly tough the string and you will have the correct note :0 and if someone were you`re at doesn`t like high things I sugest you warn them. Until next time Bye

I have to agree...i to, adore the C string, just because of its power when enforced with intensity, and its low, and the violins don`t have it!
