Does anyone keep a cello journal or have a cello blog? I was going to start a blog, but I decided to keep a private journal instead. I love writing in it because I can put down all my feelings about playing and practicing. I update it 2 or 3 times a week.

I also keep a daily practice log to write stuff down when I’m practicing. Does anyone else do this? I write down what I’m having trouble with and what I think I need to do to make it sound better. This is also where I make weekly notes after my lesson, based on the things that my teacher has said. I also list everything I’m working on for the week and use that as a guide for what I want to practice. I like to keep this detailed practice log for myself, even though my teacher writes my assignment into a spiral notebook. It keeps me motivated and focused.

Does anyone out there have a cello blog?

That is a very good habit, one I wish could come more easily to me!

An interesting idea, though. A cello blog ring, perhaps?

I, myself, have never written down what I need to practice - I just keep it all in my head, and so does my teacher. However, writing down specific details of things you need to work on and things you`re improving on is an excellent idea, so good for you! Something I have done recently is record myself playing. Man, once you hear yourself solo, you notice so many things about your playing. I suggest trying that.

Cheers,

Thomas

Glad to hear some replies to this thread. Thanks.

Ah yes, recording myself ... now that`s something I just keep putting off. Guess I`m a little afraid of what it`s going to sound like. But it really is a good idea and one I think I will act on very soon.

Maybe I`ll try recording myself playing with the duet book and CD that my teacher brought me at least week`s lesson. (I think I posted separately about that: it`s called "Ten Duets for the Beginning Cellist" by Dennis Leogrande and is available from Amazon for about $10 or $12)
