I am a young cellist and would like to add variety to my playing by learning pop/rock songs on cello. But it has been extremely difficult to find the music. It is possible to transpose guitar music to cello? I have been teaching myself cello for 6 years now, and I dont know too much about transposing.

Yeah, it`s possible. Depends on what though. If it`s a strumming song with chords, it just sounds wierd. Some guitar songs have a wide range, making it harder. Some things might be physically impossible if there are large intervals between notes. But some are very much playable, especially vocal lines of these songs. The easiest thing to do would be to put it in on a sheet music program, and most will automatically transpose it.

Thanks for the reply. I`m just looking to play simple melodies that are normally played on the guitar, like The Beatles and such. Sometimes I just need a break from all of this classical music.

I tried learning a bass solo once. Metallica- Pulling Teeth (Anesthesia). Didn`t work too well. I was stuck with impossible shifts or string crossing. I think it might work if I transpose it down a whole step so I could use open G instead. Also, it`s cool when you arrange multiple cellos for vocal parts and other guitar lines, like a quartet. Great fun.
