If anyone out there has Book 3 (Suzuki) could you possibly advise me on the following fingering question:

At the bottom of p. 5 there are 2 fingerings given for the Harmonic form of the D minor scale. I understand the fingering below the staff that indicates a shift to 2nd position with fingers 1-4 on Bb and C# respectively, but I`m confused by the alternate fingering above the staff where an up arrow indicates an extension (?) ... how is that possible with the 2nd finger on Bb ?

Thanks,
Donna

On page 5 of suzuki book 3, the up arrow just means that you must make sure the C sharp is high enough in pitch. There are no extensions in the bottom fingerings. The first finger is on (bFlat),2nd finger on(Bnatural)and 3rd finger is on(C) and the 4th finger is on (CSharp.

The top fingerings are in extended first postion. There is an extension between the first and second fingers. The first finger is on A, the is extended to B, the thir finger is on C, and the 4th finger is on Csharp.
