I have some notions of violin and now I`m venturing into cello. Regarding 1st position, what are the fingerings that you use, i mean, which finger do you use to "fret" each note?

NORMAL SHIFTING
________0 1 3_____4______13 4_____12312312312312
A string-- a b c sharp, d shift, e f g sharp abcdefgabcdefgabc
D string- d e f sharp, g shift, a b c sharp
G string- g a b sharp, c shift, d e f sharp
C string- c d e sharp, f shift, g a b sharp
(as the notes and shifting gets higher fingers get closer togeather)

Using your middle finger(2 finger) in the first position of each string would make it flat instead of sharp.

I have a disagreement. The second post has incorrect fingerings for first position. If by "123______4" you mean to shift after you put your third finger down, you`re nuts. Maybe I misunderstand the meaning of that, but if that`s what you meant, it`s wrong. Also, when you get to thumb position the most common, and easiest fingering (my teachers use this fingering, and their teacher, and so on and so forth) is 12 12 123 12 12 123.......... Never heard of a 123123123123 pattern. Again, maybe I misinterpreted what you meant, but please clarify the meaning.
Please let me know by e-mail, or another post here of any disagreements, or variations on what I`ve said. I know that there are many ways to do these scales and what not, but I`ve always been taught the fingerings above. I`d be interested to know if there are any teachers out there that teach what has formerly been posted. Thanks!
Titus
