I play clarinet, and I intend to purchase a cello. However, I know pretty much nothing about what is quality and what isn't in the cello world. I don't want to spend all too much money, but I don't want a piece of crap, and I don't want to have to buy another cello for a long time; I'm looking for a good investment.
-Cellos cost anywhere from $200- to $2,000,000 or more
, In other words they can cost anything. But the average good one is usually around $2000, made by hand and varnished. Cellos that are machine made and Laminated are very cheap. I'm not too carzy about the front sides of cellos(where the f-holes are) being made from maple or pine wood. I'm also not too crazy about a new cello, case and bow together being sold for $200-300 on Ebay or wherever when it usually costs that much or more to actually make all of them, HMMM?!
, how are they making any money and are those cellos really that cheap?!
Also, do you have to buy the bow separately?
-? maybe, the average dealer sells a bow with it and the case. Plastic bows are terrible.
Any advice would be marvelous.
