Okay, I just bought a cello (over the net, don't scream) and I've got a slight problem with it.
I cannot produce ANY sound with the bow. This is very strange as when I use my partner's violin bow to test, it sounds quite nice. Back to the cello bow, and no sound!
So thinking it was a dodgy bow I went out to a music store and bought a slightly better quality bow. Smiling to myself I sit down to play AND NO SOUND! ARRRGGGHHHH!!!!
It doesn't seem to produce the friction necessary to make a note, or even a noise!
Hear's the deal though. The strings aren't wound. This is weird to me as I would expect strings of such heavy gauge to be wound. At least my experience in other instruments would suggest this...could this be the problem?
Can anybody help me?
Cheers!
P.S. I am priming the bow with rosin, so don't even ask!
Try Takeing the cello to the music store maybe they can help you , Some times when you get a new cello and it has new strings on it , it dose not want to make a sound because the strings do not have alot a rosin on it from the bow to start a vibration so it causes the bow to slyed and not make a sound, or it could be the rosin or the strings
