I just began learning the cello this past week and so far I haven`t found a teacher or any bands or begginners orchestras that I can play in. I`m just teaching myself I guess, and so far I can play only 1st position..and four notes on each of the four strings. So I`m trying to find a free fingering chart to show me where to put my fingers to make the notes. I did already find one chart on a website, but since I`m so new to all this, it might as well be in chinese and I can`t read it. So I`m wondering if anyone can help me out with a really simple and straight forward fingering chart. Also if anybody has any advice about joining a band or orchestra. I`m 20 years old, so I guess it would have to be a community band, but I wouldn`t imagine that you can just join a band if you can`t play anything.
Anyways, hopefully I`ll hear something from someone soon.

I know that this page doesn`t really have a fingering chart but it explains the different positions very simply and there`s supposed to be a link to a proper fingering chart somewhere at the end I think! Enjoy!

I don`t know what to tell you, but for you to just get easy piano music and listen to it off of the internet so you will have a good idea of where your fingers go.

Hi. There is no fixed fingering on a piano. Just use whatever`s comfortable or whatever it says in the music. Just remember that "1" means "thumb". You can turn (cross your fingers over each other), and turn however you want, if you "run out of fingers". If you don`t know what I`m talking about ask a pianist near you and he/she`ll explain it to you better.

actually, You SHOULDNT twist however you can.this contortion of the wrist could hurt you. When my piano teacher was in collage, she did this, sprained her wrist,and couldn`t play for a month. when you are doing 2 oct. scales, you should usally use a 123123412312345 pattern for assending rH and 543213214321321 for LH.
