I have a huge problem. When I play the cello, the back of the instrument kind of rests in the middle of my bra. (Between my breats, where most of us keep it when playing). This leaves marks on my t-shirts and sweaters, and it looks quite stupid. Am I the only one with this problem? And if not, does anyone have a solution to it? It really really bothers me...

Hi, I know that they make bibs or pads that rest between you and your cello when you play. I think they probably hang around your neck, but I don't really remember. They're designed to protect the cello from zippers and buttons and such, but they ought to work to protect you as well. Try looking in a catalog for a music supplier (www.Sharmusic.com) is one such to see if you can find one. If not, you could easily enough make one. Or just drape a towel between the two of you. It'll probably stay in place.... Hope that helps some.

that's never happened to me, well, not that i've noticed anyway. but, my cello's started leaving black marks on my fingers, i think i need some string cleaner. oh well.
anyway, yeah you could try just putting a cloth or somthing in between you and your cello.

Karina, I'm kind of confused, what do you exactly mean?
(OH I AM A GUY JUST TO LET YOU KNOW, BUT WHO CARES)
Is your cello dirty so it leaves marks on your clothing?
-If so, then clean it with maybe peper towel mixed with rubbing alcohol

Is your cello heavy leaning against you so does it leave marks?
-Maybe you have your cello set too high, from the end pin. With me personally, the right part of my cello rests in front of my stomach(upper stomach muscles), I barely touch my chest.

-AH PERFECT!!!!!, Just like me, just under and away from the chest or breasts.

<Added>

Oh I might not be a girl, with breasts, but I do workout 3 sets of 10 with 200pounds bench pressing so I do have a decent sized cheast for a guy. Well that is if that has anything to do with it.

The bib things commonly go on the cello, actually. They're used widely for women and men, and they sometimes have compartments for rosin and music and such. Although I'm sure you'll want to remove that before playing.

Well, Sean, you still don't wear a bra, do you?

The problem is that the cello rests exatcly where the middle of my bra is. Like in this photo: http://www.ellos.no/Catalog/Browse/ViewSpread.aspx?CatalogId=325&orderNo=29 At right you see a very basic bra, a bra that looks like most bras. (this is just from a underwear store, it's not porn or something... Haha)
When I'm done playing, the up side down V between the cups, is left on my t'shirt... Which looks very stupid.

I'm having a little problem explaining this in english(I'm norwegian), but I hope this perhaps answered your question?

actually your fingers are black because of the fingerboard, not the strings...at least that was what my teacher told me..

Well, think I'll buy that thing that someone was talking about... But I haven't had the time yet. I was looking at the sites that someone linked me to, but I didn't find anything, have to look again. I would be glad if anyone could give me a link directly to this thing.
