Hey there,
I'm new to cello playing and have been renting an instrument from Long and Mcquade. The gigbag that they supplied with is the worst I have seen. It seems like it was designed to cause harm to the instrument so that you'll be forced to purchase. Anyway, I'd like to get a case but am not sure what the best option is for a new player whose budget is extremely tight (I am a university student). I have been looking on Ebay and found the following two attractive options: http://cgi.ebay.ca/Beautiful-Featherweight-Cello-Case-Brand-New-NICE_W0QQitemZ260103759635QQcategoryZ38106QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I like the second one better but the price is quite a bit more and I have to consider shipping to Canada. Is it worth it for a new player to spend more on a case initially (keeping in mind that I move around alot)? The concern is that I will stop playing and though I think this unlikely I still have to wonder the resale value. Any advice on the best way to go would be appreciated! Thanks

I was having a similar problem with the gig bag. Though I don't know that it was designed to cause harm to the instrument I was just so paranoid moving my cello around in it. I looked online for hardshell cases and couldn't find anything I could afford on my budget. Then I went into my local music store to buy various accessories and surprise!! There was a used hard case that someone didn't need because they had sold their cello. I got an AMAZING deal on it. My suggestion would be to look for a private seller. Check craigslist or your local music store. Hope this helps!
