Ok, i am a saxophonist, who decided to expand his horizons by learning the cello. Luckily, my school's orchestra director gave me a cello to mess around with over the Christmas break. When i got home, i looked up the names of the string names in order to properly begin learning it (seeing as i play guitar, and i have become used to note order on strings and such). Anyhow, as i proceeded to tune it, i realized that the C string was broken, stripped, and was wrapped around the shaft of the knob 0_0. The G string will reach G, then the knob will fall back into place at F. Will simply replacing these strings help this instrument? Or shall i proceed to file a formal complaint to my orchestra director?

Hi, I hope your problem has been solved by now, but I'll make a suggestion, just in case. Push in the pegs a bit. This has happened with my cello. Just yesterday the D string was very loose and when a teacher tried to tighten it the bridge fell off We put it right back, anyway, if you can't get it to work right, definitely call your teacher, wouldn't want to break a string.
