Greetings fellow cellists. I have just started playing after 38 years of not playing. I played as a child in el.school and did one big shin dig in the Long Island string festivle. Now at the age of 48 I`m going to give it another try. Bought a cheap cello from e-bay and suspect the bow and strings should be replaced right away. wondering about recommendations. I see a Martin bow that sells every night on e-bay for approx $150. any advise appreciated.

You mean the "Pernambuco Sterling J.MARTIN Cello Bow"? They are high quality bows. Buy one, oh and what type of "new cello" do you have?

Sean,
yes, that`s the bow. I keep bidding, but always get outbid! It amazes me that there are that many people buying cello bows! As to my new cello, it is a cheap chinese model that came with a Merano bow. The bow is actually pretty nice but the horse hair is shot! The bow gets no traction at all. The company that sold the set is sending me a new bow, but in the mean time I thought might invest in a relatively good one.
Again, thanks for the input

NEVER BID WHEN THERE IS MORE THAN AN HOUR LEFT, OR BETTER YET A FEW MINUTES!!!!!!!!!!! That`s because the price of the bow will just KEEP ON GOING UP AND UP if you keep on bidding when there are several days left and someone else wants the bow also! You HAVE TO bid during the last few minutes.
