i keep my cello in my bedroom; that and a keyboard etc. take over one side of the room! however, i don't know if it's really a good idea, the humidity/temperaturelevels changing rapidly at night when i'm sleeping in there and so on :/
but anyway, where do yoou practice? do you have family who might be bothered by you going to other rooms?

i have a family room and i keep my cello on a stand so that i can pick it up and put it back easily. i find that i play more often. it always seemed like a big deal to take my cello out of its case and find my music. i have everything handy to just pick it up, sit at my stand with music on it and play....

*guilty* when I'm away on vacation I keep it in its case in a closet, but usually I just stow it under the piano because I often pick it up spontaneously. I practice in my living room.

I live in a dormitory, I keep my accustic one in a hardcase, the electric in a softcase. I practice usually in my room, but if thw weather is nice, it is fun to go into the forest :-)

I now have a music room and I practise in there and in the living room when no ones around.

Prior to having a music room - - -
When I was in high school I practiced in the bedroom or the game room of my parents house.
In College, when I was on the coast I climbed up a tree at the edge of a cliff over the Pacific Ocean to do long tones, scales, and all the memorized stuff. At my second college I practiced in the practic rooms, recital halls, wherever I could get in to get 6 or 8 hours in.

As far as neighbors go - when I was younger I felt self conscious; only to find out neighbors don't really mind at all and in fact older neighbors expecially love knowing your practicing. So practice no matter what. YO YO MA used to practice in his dormitory room and people would sit in the hallway and study whiel listenign to him.

I play my cello in a living room, but the best place to play it is in the restroom where you can get good acoustics.

My real cello is in the bed room in the house, but I have one of those stick type electic ones I practice on in the truck. I drive truck so don't have much to do at night, so I practice. Violin and Cello as well as mandolin. They ride in the bed durring the day, and since I have to move them to go to bed, I practice before I place them up front for the night.
