it varies depending on what level you are on playing the cello and the different exercises you use to learn it. So basically you cant really know for sure.

The more and more that you work with it the fast you can develop a decent vibrto. just keep triing to work it in to long notes on pieces that you play.

remember to work it in units though. Units of four. Don`t do by impulse, caz u won`t be able to control the muscle co-ordination later on. It`s hard to say how long it`ll take. some pp take mths, while other take years to feel completely natural and free of `obstructing` muscles. Dun rush into perfecting it. This will take time...do some ex. everyday and it`ll come easily one day.

A little hint don`t start with swing vibrato start with finger vibrato.
a good exercise is to put your right hand across your chest and rest it on your left shoulder, put your left hand on your right arm like when your playing and start slowly go up and down but anchor your fingers to one spot.
Oh here are the combos for your fingers:1,2,2&3,4
for swing vibrato:1,2,2&3,3&4

Vibrato isn`t actually that hard to master. Of course, it takes a lot of practice, and it really won`t happen over night, but rememberthat the movement is basically the wiggle of the wrist, NOT THE FINGER!!! Good luck.

I learned to vibrato in my third year of playing. I felt completely comfortable with it during my fourth year, and I am in my fifth year. However, suddenly my arm is beginning to get tired and my vibrato is getting worse. I really don`t know what I`m doing wrong. This is a serious problem, and as of now I sound absolutely horrible compared to last year. Does anyone have advice for me???

listen "music is good 4u" if you start out with swing vibrato you will never have a good vibration thats constant and beautiful.

It took me about 2 weeks to beable to do it to a standard that satisfied my teacher, and was acceptable in exams etc. but if an expert heard it, I bet they`d say, "That sounds like a goat being slaughtered, eugh."

I started doing vibrato at about 5 years old, I am now 13 and have mastered the technique (phuew!). When i first started doing vibrato, I moved my arms like I was trying to flap, that took a while to get out of.

I am desperate to talk to some NZ or English cellists on msn
my E-mail is I_hate_the_world52@hotmail.com plz dont be put off by my e-mail, it was the first thing that came into my mind
