Hello. After 10 years of being a musician and wishing I had learned to play the cello instead, I made an impulse buy on eBay and now own a 4/4 cello (Antoni acc35 is the make and model).

I got a pretty good deal, but it came without strings and a bow.

I have a budget of around £150 to get everything I need. I'm an absolute beginner at the cello so my main aim is to get it up and running, but I'm hoping to get the best value for money that I can.

Couple of related questions: how long do strings generally last? Would it be better to start with cheap strings and a slightly better bow, then upgrade the strings when I come to change them? I've seen a few people buy strings individually from different brands, is that preferable to buying a complete set, or should I not worry about that this early on?

Thanks, any advice would be appreciated.

Hello

That is preferable to buy a complete set. Jargar medium is very good and not too expensive.
And they last arround 1 year

A good website below
