I love fiddle tunes, but I play the cello, does anyone know where I could find good Irish fiddle music for cello? Also, how does one get good at improvisation? I have been trying to jam with my frinds, but I don`t even know where to begin, as I am only classically trained. Thanks!

I can`t help you with your fiddle tunes, but I can help you out with the improvisation. Just do it. Play around with the notes in the key signature, and have fun. Improvisation is all about having fun, not about hitting every not perfect. Figure out what key they`re playing in, and just play some notes in that scale. Sooner, or later, you will start hearing the notes you want to play, even before you want to play them. I, like you, am also strickly trained in classical music, and have very few opportunities to improvise. Just remember, try, and have fun. That`s the key.

www.musicaviva.com You have to find it, but it does have a cello section. click it, select Ireland under "nationality" and run a search. Tell ya what. Leeme see if I ca get hyperlinks to a few songs. Heck, a lot of them have GIFs and MIDIs! brb.

Ok, there weren`t any Irish ones; it`s a wierd directory, but a good wierd one. just read over the MIDIs, and since most of them are treble, I recommend transposing. Just get the GIFs, or use the tab converter on this site. As for improvisation, only you can work that out with yourself. Play around with the notes until you are happy with what you have made. But do yourself a big favor; write down all of the notes you play. Trust me, they leave your brain in a heartbeat. Hope this helps. Bye!

I don`t know much about Irish fiddle music, but why can`t just play the songs one octave lower (or two... or whatever) on your cello? I use to play after my piano sheet music sometimes.
