Hello, I am a flute player, and I was wondering is it hard for a person who has been playing the flute to switch over and try the cello?

By no means; I can`t see your technical mastery of the flute helping you much, but your musicality will. The very fact that you are asking the question indicates you are fascinated by the cello and the sound it makes, and willing to give it a go- why not go for it! For one thing there are a lot more orchestral places for cellists than flautists. You do rather have to be prepared to go back to stage 1 though, and not expect after one year to be where you were after 5 years on the flute

I don`t know, there are some people that become very good cello players very fast, especially if you have a good tutor! I met a boy who first knew nothing about music and with a good tutor he could play almost anything on the cello a year later.

I played the flute and switched to cello, it can only help you! flautists have very agile fingers and this will help with the cello.so do it! best of luck xo

Hey Kristyn
just wanted to say I stopped piano lessons for cello and it`s been great. I`ve been teaching myself more piano by just playing any cool music I find that I can get my hands on. Piano skills really helped me learn too. You can teach yourself either one while taking lessons for the other. Don`t stop playing anything, whatever you do.
