I am looking for a microphone to use with my cello during a live performance. Will any pro instrument microphone work? I only have $50 to spend. Thanks!

Well I`m not sure but what I always did is got my little microphone, pluged it up to the stereo and put the whole microphone in the cello. If I hooked the microphone to the bridge or just outside of the cello, then there wouldn`t be as much sound. It`s because the sound comes from within the cello and you will get the best sound if you buy a little microphone and put it in the cello. People usually sell them with small tape recorders because thats where mine came from.

Will a tie-clip microphone produce a good-quality sound? Sound is the most important aspect I am looking for. I want it to be as close to the natural sound of the cello as possible. Thanks!

The usual thing is the electric cello, but since you don`t have that, you would have to go with what I have said. What I`ve seen people do with regular cellos and microphones is get the same microphone I showed you and attach it to the middle of the bridge and fastened it with a piece of a cotton ball. The little microphone will do the trick and does produce good sound. I tried the putting the little microphone on the bridge and it doesnt do as well as putting the entire microphone in the cello. Oh and what are you going to do with a gigantic microphone, too bulky and would do the same job or worse as the little microphone.
